20 years Ensemble Zeitfluss
Ensemble Zeitfluss celebrates 20 years!
To celebrate this special occasion, the ensemble invites you to a festive concert in the Minoritensaal in Graz. The concert will also be dedicated to Beat Furrer’s 70th birthday.
Anselm Schaufler’s Klarinettenkonzert offers the solo clarinet plenty of room to unfold. The ensemble is closely interwoven with the sound of the solo part, expanding it spatially so to speak and not merely acting as an accompaniment. The piece does not allow itself to be subordinated to either a modernist fashion or a solidified tradition, but aims to make a liberated statement.
In Still (1998), Beat Furrer orientates himself on the sound of an electric circular saw and devotes himself increasingly to events that are not continuously dense but massive in sound.
„In Gang gesetzt, gibt sie nur ein leises Fauchen von sich, höchste Kraft und Energie, aber gleichsam im Leerlauf. Erst wo die Säge auf einen Widerstand stößt, entlädt sich diese Energie im durchdringenden Geräusch.“ (Fuhrman, 2000:10)
From this immense movement in a disguised manner, which is created by the piece, Furrer suddenly allows more massive sounds to break out and extreme contrasts develop. In contrast, full-toned sounds in which the resonances of the instruments can unfold completely freely are the exception.
Anticlinal flux by Hannes Kerschbaumer introduces the glissotar into the context of contemporary ensemble music for the first time. Its technical possibilities – above all the glissando – are ideally combined with central characteristics of Kerschbaumer’s aesthetic. Inspired by the geological phenomenon of fold formation, meso- and macroformal progressions were derived and transformed into purely musical structures.
The process and creation of an imaginary, pre-existing species inspired Tasos Stylianou to create his work VRONTIGOTRAFIGOS. It was created by carefully studying its ‘DNA’ structure and answering questions about its possible form, its internal structure and also its behaviour during its lifetime.
Florian Geßler’s work Am Saum der Dinge deals with the theme of the overwhelming diversity of phenomena and the fact that everyone is part of this diversity and carries it within them: In the midst of this diversity, however, it also seems impossible to penetrate to the things themselves, to fully recognise another person; there always remains something ‘unresolvable’. In the spirit of Plato, we only see the shadows cast in our cave, only perceive the outlines of the shadows (including our own). So we remain – forced to – patiently at the edge of things (Am Saum der Dinge).
Ensemble Zeitfluss is delighted to celebrate the diversity and richness of this era with this anniversary and to inspire an audience for the fascinating sounds of contemporary music!
